Loxy's Silver FN2 GT

Any chance you could elaborate on the change back to N/A Loxy and what problems you had? would be very interested to hear. Feel free to PM me if you would rather.

PM'd. :)

What were the issues then buddy, Not sure if you know but im picking up an EP3 today while my FD is still getting sorted and was going to charge it when the FD came back...

Glad to see the car being well modded NA too. Paul is good at listening to what you want and normally gets it very close too. The stoptechs are fantastic. What ones have you gone for the bigger option or the touring option think its just a smaller rotor with the touring kit.

I've gone for the bigger kit, 328mm. :)

They are what were on my FN2... Wicked piece of kit.

Got the Skunk2 Stage 1 cams and valve springs fitted over the last couple of days.

I'll post up the graph when I get it emailed over, but it made 247bhp at the fly and 180lbft. Happy bunny!

Also had the clutch swapped out for a Competition Clutches Stage 4.

BBK still to come! :)

Hi Loxy, what revs did it make these numbers and what was the max power at the wheels?

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I'm pretty sure peak power was at 8,600 but I'm not 100% sure until I get the graph. It was well over 8k that's for sure.

I didn't see the wheel power but based on the ratio of what it has done previously on the same dyno it will be in the region of 205-207.

180lb/ft of torque is mighty impressive :-D What does if feel like to drive now? Look forward to seeing it on 5th November :-D

Cheers!

It is a bit of both worlds really. It is quite a bit torquier on the low cam. Paul actually had to detune the low cam a bit otherwise I would have ended up with a OEM style kick on the VTEC crossover. The low cam had it's own peak around 4,000 then tailed off a bit, but still made more than the high cam until around 4,200. Paul has smoothed it out now, so it will feel much better to drive and can live with a few less lbft. He asked me all this while on the dyno, so completely as I wanted it.

On high cam it makes power like the OEM cams, but just keeps going and doesn't tail off until the high 8,000s, so Paul has set the limiter at 8,700rpm. It is a fair bit different to drive because you have to learn to hang onto the revs a bit more. Before it was tailing off just before 8,000, so I've got a fair bit more range to play with.

I got 32 mpg on the run back as well according to the on board trip, mixture of motorway, A and B roads. :P

Here we go. :)

Power with the cam dips at 4,000 rpm I had got it wrong, but made much more than it did before 4,000 and this gave a bit of a kick. This is when it's been detuned on low cam.

So story of yesterday to update the thread.

Back at TDi-North and had Cosworth Streetmaster pads and new OEM discs fitted on the rear. I did think the rear O/S caliper was binding but it was only doing it when I'd put some heat in the brakes, and it turned out the slider was sticking, so all in job done.

I also had the Falkens swapped onto the rear yesterday and the Bridgestone RE050As with around 3mm back on the front.

Masses more grip on the front now, turn in is drastically improved as is steering feel and ride is much much better. Brought it home not to scrimp on tyres.

The Bridgestones are getting replaced with Asymmetric 2s over the coming weeks though. The plan is to run the Falkens on the rear over the winter, then put the part worn Asymmetric 2s on the rear and replace the Falkens with some more new Asymmetric 2s for the front in time for Nurburgring and Spa in March/April.

Stoptech BBK and ACT Clutch going on/in next week! :D

Went back to TDi-North today to have the remaining planned work completed.

Had the Stoptech 328mm Big Brake Kit installed, with 15mm Eibach Spacers. I'm still bedding these in, the majority of the heat cycling has been done and the bite is coming but they aren't quite there just yet. I'm cleaning the car tomorrow, so pics will follow.

Also had the Competition Clutch Stage 4 removed. I had started to get used to it and it probably was getting easier, but my back was still aching after being stuck in traffic. Paul said if anything I had been too gentle bedding that clutch in and there was hardly any wear on the clutch disc.

Before removing the old clutch Neil said that he first checked the clutch fluid. It looked gunky and horrible, so he cleared that out and immediately the pedal felt better. He did however crack on and swap the clutches over as agreed, so I now have an ACT Stage 1 clutch fitted. I've described this as feeling like pressing down on an angel's wing in comparison to the old clutch! It feels virtually stock, cracking bite and has made changing gear fun again rather than the event it had turned into. I'm going to have to get used to not having to rev the car to 2,500 rpm to set off smoothly though now.

All in all very pleased. Must say a big thanks to Neil and Ben who stayed well past 6pm getting the car ready. Lou was around too, showing me some crazy drag Mercs he'd found on the net while I was bashing Forza 3 with a lairy Mugen DC5.

Next on the list will be the Driven Crazy Scoop that is in my kitchen at the moment. I'll crack on with that next week.
